  • Bad Trainer?

Hey I live in Ecuador and i go to a gym 3 times a week. This is the only gym I could find in Quito but the problem is that the trainer doesn't seem like a trainer, he seems more like a teacher. Its not a one on one thing there are many students and it seems like this guy is only in it for like aerobics not for competition. Every time I ask him if I'm ready for a fight or something along those lines he says in 6 months, and every time i ask if there's a fight I can go see live here he says hell get back to me when he finds out about one. It doesn't seem like hes serious about boxing as a competition sport but as a workout. Anyone have any ideas? should i look for another trainer or give him some more time?

They feed the bums for the other gyms to beat down on and learn from so the boxing board are happy to keep 'em. The proof is in the pudding. Call the local ABA office and check up on their records. Losers will beget more losers and vice versa.

It sounds like you found a losing trainer who quit while he was behind, but not too far behind. He knows he can't take his fighters forward because in the past he has failed or he is too lazy. either way try to find a more active club with a good record. Call the local ABA!

Hey I am in Quito also, there are 4 boxing gyms I know of. I go to one in La Tola, not far from La Marin station. There is one in the south in Chimbacalle (site of the new bus terminal) and one at La Vicentina - but this is for the Pichincha selection team you can train with them but need to be experienced and a fairly high level of fitness, I started to train with them until I injured my knee. Where are you in Quito?

ABA stands for Amateur boxing Association. In some countries they are called federations and might even be administrated nationally. Check on AIBA website which can be found on google. I called the guy at the regional office and he was helpful, he knew all the bums. Inactive clubs are run by bums, no doubt.
