  • The Right Hook (orthodox)

    When do u use it?

My trainer is pretty persitant on using it in combos i.e jab right jab Hook(right) & some times even just a straight jab hook(right). He teaches these to all new starters. I know its a very powerful punch but i find the right hook leaves you way to open and is hard to land unless the opponent is covered up

Any thoughts on the punch? & what i could maybe say to my trainer about it?

    thanks

I like it against someone who keeps their left low, but I don't really hook it I throw it more like throwing a baseball with a huge amount of snap.

My trainer doesn't teach right hook or uppercut for am's, instead long distance straight punches are his bread and butter.

the only time i throw a right hook is if im fighting a southpaw, and slipping away from their cross and going for the body.

              pretty sloppy punch

only use it if your opponent is really open to it

Jones gave a savage one to Virgil Hill that broke a few ribs, countering under the jab.

I was just going to tell you to check out bernard hopkins and juan manuel marquez and that dude above posted a b-hop vid. I never used it until I saw both of these guys. It can be very affective but you have to learn how to throw it quickly. You can lead with another punch like a jab or throw it single when you think it will catch him. Many people have evaded my right hook when I lead with it but you can catch them if you time it right and if it is quick enough.

alright then, it does have its use as a close infighting punch. but its being taught at my gym as a fundermental punch with out infighting being mentioned
