If I were you, I'd just save my cash and do real roadwork...Run on the side of the road, on the grass..especially if you're a heavyweight...

    and dude...

it's NEVER too harsh to go outside unless you live in alaska or somewhere where your piss freezes midair, I'm not thin and when I took roadwork seriously I was ****** enough to actually run with a sweater in the middle of summer in louisiana...I was young and dumb, and luckily nothing happened to me..

i dunno, i'd keep like 1/4th a bottle of water in my pocket and just go on like 5-6 mile runs for the hell of it, I wasn't setting any time records, i was a turtle.

ok i dont know what a rowing machine or a cross trainer are but i would save the money and do roadwork. I was using my moms treadmill for a month but tuesday i did some roadwork and im sticking with roadwork cuz it actually makes me sweat and it feels like im actually putting work in. Its hotter in hell in texas right now so i have to get up to run at 545 a.m. cuz its like in the low 80s then. The only time im going on the treadmill is when its raining.

Swimming makes your movements slow according to some old school trainers. Nothing replaces running because it impacts the biggest muscles in your legs and works them. Even a treadmill will pushes back and makes it easier than the road. It is the best peice of kit from them three through and can help bums or recovering fighters keep going. Roadwork is numero uno and treadmill is second place. Everything else is for women who's breast hurt when they jog and who don't want to train hard. That is who that equipment is made for and why chicks love exercise bikes in gyms.

Swimming - hard swimming - is not for women who are breast hurt and who don't want to train hard. Personally, swimming fast laps works my lungs harder than interval sprints and running. Sure, running is probably better for the legs, but I wouldn't so far as to saw swimming is for *******.

What makes everyone think the Treadmill is so great and 'real' running is even better?
The list goes like this from best to worst:

                  1. Cross Trainer
                  + Controlled heartbeat.
+ You almost use your whole body so that your muscles individualy require less blood, which makes it easier for your heart to pump blood, which makes you able to train longer.

                  2. Swimming
+ The water is refreshing so your coretemperature stays normal which prevents you from sweating.
+ You use your whole body.
                  - Uncontrolled heartbeat.

                  3. Rowing Machine
                  + Controlled heartbeat.
+ You use almost your whole body...
                  - It requires you to use your biceps the most. For boxing I don't focus on my biceps so I tend to get tired quickly on a rowing machine.

                  4. Treadmill
                  + Controlled heartbeat.
+ The surface is flat which is better for your joints.
                  - You only use your legs which makes it hard for your heart to pump blood because your legs need alot of blood. This causes your legs to get tired quickly.

                  5. Running
                  - Uncontrolled heartbeat.
                  - Unflat surface...
                  - You only use your legs...

Correct me if I'm wrong though; I came up with this theory by myself so I'm not at all sure . It just seemed to me that everyone thinks running is best because their favourite boxers did it.
Correct me with scientific reasons though, not with examples of howmany boxers run instead of using a machine :x

If you are going to get a rowing machine, be sure to get a concept2 model.

                    http://www.concept2.com/us/default.asp

They are by far the best ergs available. They are the most expensive, but you could pick up an older model on ebay cheaper, you won't regret it.

As for the treadmill, **** it, just run outside.

and the cross trainer.....i dunno never used them much.
