One of my trainers said he would run 8 miles in 55 minutes in his prime. That's damn good stamina if you ask me.

Maybe you got the distance wrong. I dont think it should take anybody half an hour to run 2.5 miles. Id have ran 4miles by then and i'm not really a fast runner, and no doubt weigh more than you.
      I mean steap, steap lol.

Anyway i just measured the route on google earth and it was 3.2 miles.

I travel slower when I am doing cross country, but that includes scaling cliffs.

8 - 7minute miles is good. I've known people who have run far faster though.

I guess it just shows you how amazing Haile Gebrselassie is. He ran the Berlin Marathon in 2:04:26. That's 4:44 minute miles constantly for 26 miles!! I couldn't run ONE 4:44minute mile and he did 26 one after the other.

          Absolutely amazing.

My stamina has got really bad lately for long distance running. I can do 2 miles in under 15 no problem but anything over that i start to gas out pretty quickly after around 20 minutes of jogging.

My shortburst sprints are still okay and i can last 90 minutes on a football field with 15 minutes half time rest, but cross country training just isn't for me anymore i guess.

Gotta question... Am I normal? Ha Ha. Nah, seriously...

I ran about 9 miles the other day and I have found that if I run at a comfortable level (one that can be maintained over a long distance), I start off really slow and gradually get faster and faster. By the last mile I was sprinting at probably my fastest pace.

My theory is that it takes me a hell of a long time to warm up. But is this normal? Don't most people find the comfortable pace slows down over time?

I did a 12 km run (about 7,5 miles) in 0:58:31 last month. I nearly puked, but I wanted to overtake someone who was in front of me from the start...

Your body just adjusts to the tempo and get used to it. Its like if you do a warm up before a run you find it easyer.
