  • The theory of improving one's negative attributes.

Newton's 2nd law, Force = Mass (Fist) multiplied by Acceleration (Speed).

The more damaging looping punches (Hooks in general) are traditionally (and, it's a proven fact you get more power by using your entire body like I'm speaking of) performed by first using strength from the legs, which moves into the core of your body then to the torso and the power exerted and executed with the arm, to the end of the fist.

This means, that if you have strong legs and a weak core, develop your core. If you have a strong core, but bird legs and a weak upperbody, work on the legs and upperbody...do jump drills, etc.

Right now I'm in a situation where I have to lose a massive amount of weight, and develop my core at the same time. That is one positive attribute to it. But my core is infantile weak, I can only imagine how hard the power of my punches will be or how much they will increase, if I take the abdominal improvement routine as serious as I have been taking it...and do it for a month or two months. I don't know how much I'd improve, but I have a belly, and I think if I had the abdominal and oblique abdominal muscle strength and endurance it would greatly assist me in distributing the weight to the end of my fist as well as reduce my overall bodyweight...Because while I strengthen my core I plan to only work on doing that...Throw a few punches here and there, but 80% of my exercises involve head movement, weaving, side to side, keeping hands up high and tight with elbows in, etc etc.

To make this movement I make exertions out my nose with every weave, it takes alot of energy to move 280 lbs of fat left and right quickly, it is such an unnatural movement but it, if refined, can turn into something serious if a guy has a better jab and cross than you.

If any of you know any good ab exercises you'd like to throw my way that would aid what I'm doing here, I would greatly appreciate it. Haters are welcome to talk **** because every thinks whiteboys can't fight. I might be white but I fight like a mexican, giving and taking punches like a robot..Margarito style! ...haha...Head movement and defense is what will come out of this abdominal training, so hopefully we will see some style changes and me develop my hooks more accurately. I am now going outside to push my neighbors ****box metro around the block. After that I'm going to do some wood chopping about an acre back......ill check back in later.

and here's a look at the guy who was the best there ever was at the art of weaving and coming in with hard punches...its a badass video, watch near the end where Atlas jabs jabs and jabs away on him and he throws that head around...****ing insane..and the shot of D'Amato peering over the ropes like a stone gargoyle after Tyson lands the left uppercut on Rooney's pads, it's a great vid..

This style ,known as the peekaboo style, was developed by a guy named Jack Doc Kearns. This dude got saved in a barfight by Jack Dempsey, who was working the docks back then. Dempsey knocked out hte two bullies and found a friend and manager in Jack Kearns. Kearns developed the peekaboo and this tandem would then blaze across the midwest, stepping over the prone bodies of Heavyweights to the ****in' title, starting with Dempsey's 1st fight ever One Punch Han**** in Salt Lake City...

Getting to the point. After that, from what I understand Cus D'Amato copied that style and adapted it to Floyd Patterson but in a different way, Floyd held his gloves differently than Dempsey and Tyson but all three, and Joe Frazier, used the peekaboo style. Their guard positioning is mostly the only thing that differs stylewise, remember, the athlete makes the fighter I'm just specifically talking stylewise, the only thing that differed was their guard and glove positioning....

So, I guess Frazier got it from Patterson and then D'Amato got old, and found Mike...Not sure how many other fighters who were as famous as the ones listed above adapted the style, but I just figured I'd share what I knew .

Acceleration is more a change in speed, not really speed itself. You can have good acceleration, but still be moving at a slow speed. Granted, if you're a fat ****, chances are you won't be able to change your speed very quickly either.

        ^ very true.

i took some physics and newtons second law is very specific when it comes to calculating a force. it doesn't account for torsional energy loss/gain (pivoting) and also moment of inertia (change in mass distribution -- weight shifting).

True, it doesn't, but that doesn't take much of it's usability away when it comes to boxing. The factors you mention are quite simply what we call "technique," and that is another discussion.

You can break training up into different categories, two of those are technique, and physical ability (strength, endurance etc.). If you improve your technique, that will potentially benefit your physical abilities (better technique means less energy wasted = better endurance, for example), and improving your physical abilities will allow your technical skills to be more effective - better endurance = ability to throw technically correct punches for longer, better strength/explosiveness = more acceleration of a technically correct punch = harder, faster punch.

PS: Norm, I was gonna give you some info on different exercises and workouts for your core, but since you don't care what I have to say, I'm not gonna waste my time

Can you give me the info, though?

Considering that video you posted where you narrowly lost to that 100lb bag, You've got a loooooooooong way to go!

first of all it doesnt matter if your white, black, spanish, asian... a boxer is a boxer.

abdominal workouts can be done by running, sit ups, crunches, planks, bicycles, six-inches... many more. dont forget about the legs tho, head movements involve footwork. the way i see it, i think your body is just like a building, you need to have a good foundation in order to have a strong standing structure. so work out the legs too. as far as hooks i usually try to work on rotation by hitting a sledgehammer to a tire and getting full rotation on my swings, doing pull ups, and doing some resistance band training.

i dont necessarily agree that mass = your fist...

george foreman didnt hit hard because he had a big fist.

If you throw a punch with proper tecnique, its your entire body that is the mass IMO
