  • Broken wrist recovery

I fracrured my wrist about 3 1/2 weeks ago. I fractured my ulnar styloid. I have been in a hard brace for the duration and took it off today to test it out. My wrist is 75% better already and I already have some strength much better mobility etc.. I actually went swimming and lightly worked it out. This is the first time in my life that I broke something and was wondering how long the recovery is. I mean my wrist is improving but still not nearly 100% and I want to know how long. I also would like to know what exercises for therapy on the wrist to speed recovery and strengthen it. Finally what preventative exercises for strengthening the muscles and tendons. I guess the most important part of this question is how long til I am 100% and when can I start light bag work?

    Thank you very much

Dont know much about this but my ribs got cracked on a few occasions in the past from sparring and I was told by the doctor to drink high calcium low fat milk.

Do exercises that work the wrist flexors and extensors. In other words, rest your arms on your thighs, take a barbell or dumbbells in your hands, and flex the wrists upwards from the palm downwards position, then turn the hands palm up and flex the hands upwards in the opposite direction. Also rotate the hands circularly counterclockwise, then counterclockwise in order to stretch the muscles and ligaments and break up the scar tissue. Because the wrists have so many bones, as well as ligaments, nerves, and blood vessels running through them, there is no guarantee you will ever regain 100% mobility. Try to be careful when you are sparring, hitting the heavy bag, etc....
