i got hurt with this exact shot last nite .
stunned me for a solid 20-30 seconds i had my hands down and was stingin..

how do you like to set it up?

Make them worry about protecting their face. When the hands go up to guard I don't care how much their elbows are in, it reveals the liver . What looks prettiest is to already have them respecting your jab and use a jab as a feint and then deliver it..conventional manner is to bother them upstairs enough to worry about covering up,i.e. with hook /uppercut combinations until you see them put their guard up.

how do you like to set it up?

Hook to the liver hurts like ****, but I think a good uppercut to the chin is better, because it is more likely to turn the lights off in your opponent.

Better yet, hook to the liver, uppercut to the other side, and then uppercut to the chin, and your opponent is ****ED.

These two punches complement each other...Right uppercut for orthodox fighters and then a left to the liver, but that's sacrificing alot of defense..





Another good way to sneak it in, is to throw a hard jab, a weak cross, then put everything you have on that left hand and drill it home

To add maximum power to the liver shot ,technically you should put your left glove by your ear as you move your head to the left before throwing the punch to distribute the weight better...I try to do it as much as I can..
keeping the hands up is so important and everyone stresses it so much...But because of this alot of guys reveal the liver

How the hell is throwing a left hook to the body 'setting up a left hook to the body'? God damn, you amuse me P4P! Maybe think about what he asked before replying. Just a thought.




On topic: There is the classic 1-2 then hook', which would be the most commonly used. I personally like throwing it off a right counter or feint. Obviously always best to throw it after setting up something upstairs to bring the hands up before going back down, whether that means feinting upstairs or throwing out a punch to bring in the right of the opponent so you expect it and can block/dodge etc and counter with the left for a nice open shot.

Yeah yeah, good thread, I've been working on this shot set up by a straight 1-2 for a while now. Also once you hit them hard in that spot they will know about it and start to defend that area alot more, taking focus off their head, so you can play with the 2 area's once you hit them hard once.

when i throw a left to the body, i like to throw a right up top then turn my whole body with that right so im in the southpaw stance now and slam that left hook/left cross to the body..like margarito did to cintron. thas my ****

devastating punch. i usually throw a 1-2 to the head then a rip downstairs but i also do a 1-2-1 rip downstairs or a 1-2 left hook to the head then left rip downstairs......
