  • Injury 5 weeks until tourney...I am depressed

I was sparring yesterday in a session and caught someone coming in with a hard jab. I felt a pop in my wrist and immediate pain. I shook it off and kept going and actually switched to unorthodox cuz it hurt so bad. After effects no real swelling, no black and blue but serious pain. It is all around the little knob that connects your arm to your hand and I cant even wash my nutz it hurts so bad. I have iced it for 5-6 20 minute stints since it happened (yesterday at 1 pm) and bought a little brace for it too. If I just rest it on ym chest no pain but even the wrist brace is painful. I have a fight (s) in 5 weeks and WILL NOT miss them. So, any advice or anyone experience this before? PLease help...

PS: anyone who responds to this saying I should have stopped as soon as it happened should just move as I know this.

    Thank you all

Damn man you should go see a doctor if you havn't already. You might have done some real damage. Failing that, it might go away after a few days or so..

Good luck with the fight Dan

        Damn tough luck danny.

Best thing to do I think is to go see a doctor as quickly as possible. He'll be able to make the best judgment, and, hopefully, he'll get you fixed up in time for your fights.

        Good luck with everything man.

Sure its not arthritis in your old age?
No really that sucks, dont punch anything or put any strain on it!, rest and ice it then see preferably a specialised sports doctor. It might be able to heal in 2 or 3 weeks, but it sounds if you want it to heal properly it will need more time otherwise it will bother you in the future. Will just have to do alot of cardio and shadow boxing until then. Make up for what you will lose in sparring and bag work by being super killer cardio fit. How important isthe fight can you put it off until you heal? Or you might be able to get through the fight with heavy bandaging and some sort of analgesic, but probably best letting it heal for as long as you can.

I actually have done the same thing. Not as severe from the way yours sound but it put me out of training for about three weeks. For one I took 4 pills of motrin to make up 800 milli's and iced it and wore a brace on it to stabilize it and prevent myself from hurting it again. Honestly after the time i took off i feel the hand being stronger but i still tend to tweak it from time to time. So, I think it may need some attention that neither one of us can deliver, i'd say go visit the doctor. Good luck!

Don't wait for a miracle to happen, get a diagnose, and get treatment! This way you'll know what to expect, instead of blind hope.

Hey Danny, this happened to me about 4 weeks ago, exactly the same as what happend to you but mine was my straight right hand landing on somebody's head that caused the injury. After all kinds of pain and not being able to wipe my own ass i went to the docs. An XRAY reveled no broken bones and i was sent home. To this day i still cant throw my right hand nor can i lift heavy things, some good advice: DO NOT use your right hand because you will injure it again.

I tried to spar and not throw the right but it becomes a habit and you throw it anyway. Even as im typing im feeling an uncomfortable stiffness. I was supposed to fight on the 4th but there is no way I can do that.

Anyway, go see a doctor but whatever you do do not use the wrist until it heals completely.
