  • Bad trainers

Ok so the gym I go to sucks. The trainers rarely explain anything to you. They'd rather walk by you and let you do something completely wrong than give you any attention. They even tried to rip me off and extra 40 dollars for another month. They've barely taught me anything. Only things of learned with thier help was:

    Jab,
    keeping your hands up,
the upright stance with most of the wieght put on your back leg,
lean forward when doing the step and jab,
keep feet planted when throwing a punch,
    pivoting,
    angleing off,
    side stepping,
kick off back foot and step in with lead foot when dashing (opposite when dashing backwards),
    cross (without much wieght shifting),

I've learned alot of the things I know mostly by studying videos of the greats. Because they would explain something once then they go away and never really tell me if I was doing it right or not. So I had to figure out it out on my own by watching videos and then going to the gym experementing things such as the punches on the heavy bag keeping in mind what little they told me and what I saw done the videos. I tried many many different things untill I figured what what was most effective and correct. Then as I learned on my own they started noticing me a bit more because my punches were the loudest and they come out fast too. I know for sure that I am the strongest puncher among all the teens and most of the adults there. I noticed that NO ONE in that crowded gym, other than one guy, wieght shifts completely! No body puts their hips into the punches (which I noticed ALOT of pro boxers dont even do themselves)!

So one day I got to spar for the first time. Against someone who was about 1 year older, and had the hieght, reach, and wieght advantage. I held my own against him and landed much more clean shots than he did and had the fight the entire 4 rounds. The only dowside was getting to the inside because his arms were so long and I wasnt expierenced in fighting tall people. Since that day they started giving me a LITTLE more attention. Which is so ****** because I taught my self mostly everything and was able to spar a person with all those advantages, and do a much better job than him with out thier help.

Things such as weight shifting punches, how to bob n weave, slip, and so on they never explained to me, I learned those all on my own. So the bottem line is what should I do? Should I keep going even though I dont like the trainers? Its the only gym I can go to thats close so I have no other option. The only positive thing about going is that I can use thier equipment. And is it possible to become an amatuer or pro without being represented by a gym?

If that was me i would buy my own heavy bag and dumbbells. If you hate it that much just go on the days they spar and learn things your own way. If you learnt them things by yourself why go when your not learning. Yes it is possible to be an amateur or pro without going to a gym. You have to have a coach tho who knows what they are doing. I have a friend who trains at his coach's house and he is 17-4 as an amateur. Your choice tho mate. Keep training

This is exactly the same kind of help I need, it is unlikely you will become pro by learning at home because you will probably pick up bad habbits, but if your gym really is that bad then best of luck mate.

You'll leave the more technical things like bobbing and weaving etc when you've nailed the basics and have made the gym's team. Don't worry about it. Just keep going, i'm lucky the gym im with at the moment is really good, they spend as much time with you as they can and won't ignore anything you get wrong, it really seems like they love the sport because a 2 hour training session often turns into a 2 hr 30 or longer. I'm just trying to nail the bag work, basic defences, sparring etc and when I get good enough I hope to make a team and then I train on "invited days" and there they teach you the far more technical stuff but you've got to be paitent, you're looking at like 1 year + for that stuff.

I know for a fact that I have the basics down correctly. Ive been going to the same gym for about 7 months, and its still pretty much the same situation as when I first went. They dont give a **** about you. I wish I was older so I can beat the ****in **** outta those punk mutha****in trainers.

That right there is exactly why they are not teaching you anything. They are probably thinking... we have been ignoring this little punk and he is still coming in... When will he leave?

Why don't you try showing some respect? That will get you a lot more attention for your trainers than this angry little badass complex you have going.

you can train by yourself at home thats no problem. But you should still go for sparring because who else can you sparr with.

No buddy nice try though. I dont ever disrespect them, not in thier face. I would gain nothing at all by that. They can one shot me if I disrepect them in person. I barely speak with them. Only time I do is to try to get advice from them in technique and such. Even then when I do try to ask for help all they do is give me a half assed answer.

And I've seen your little southpaw video, why dont you get a little more snap and proper technique into those punches, *****.
