If your trainer has told you to go orthodox I would take his advice, especially if you feel comfortable with it. The best advice to give you would be to keep training orthodox, including sparring, shadowbox, heavybag and the pad work. Just try to get yourself used to it as much as you can. I'm right handed for the record and I love jabbing with my left. I remember I used to hate it, but when I started to practice with it more and more, I got comfortable.
Good Luck
