http://www.usaboxing.org/86_1886.htm (not in a bit due to the olympics)

http://www.usaboxing.org/86_1880.htm (there just about everyday, just won NYC GG again and is going to nationals)

Lots of guys with gold gloves hanging around their necks.... lots of top amateurs... and the funny thing is it is a small quiet not crowded gym....

I just remembered who he is... saw him fight Augustus in like 2005... I was rooting for Augustus, but he unloaded on the back of Oliveira's skull which i thought was pretty dirty - led to the fight being stopped. I think Oliveira was a bit past his prime in that one; but he has solid skills and i imagine is a great guy to train with.

i like to go hard in sparring. i'd say we spar hard at our gym. it's not uncommon to leave with a bloody nose, or welts around the eye. that's probably why our trainer makes us were 18oz gloves.

it's never about winning or losing. it's not about knocking the other guy out. but you can still spar hard.

              That's not that bad actually
That's more in line with what I'm used to
The type of "going too hard" that I'm talking about is gits wearing 10oz gloves that they've been using every day for 2 years & trying to "win" by any means necessary.
The type I'm talking about is like my old gym back east, where there was at least one KO and/or broken bone (nose) every week.
People needing stitches for lacerated eyebrows from the under-padded gloves.
Where the ring canvas looked like a jackson pollock painting from all the puddles of blood.

The occasional hard shot'll keep you honest.
But treating every sparring session like a smoker isn't much fun.

                Exactly my point.

Yea man that was his last fight. That was him coming off his loss to Hatton too. Id say he was past his prime in 2003 but he kept fighting anyway. He applied to get his boxing license back but they wouldnt give it to him after the problems in the Augustus fight. So now he trains. Hes ***in intense man. He kills you in the gym, and its something new every night. He kills us a different way every night lol. Training with Ray is like torture. I see how he had such great stamina in his prime after working with him now. Dude threw like a million punches a fight. His fight vs Ben Tackie was the most punches ever thrown in a fight compubox followed...almost 3000.

Weve got 3 guys that spar lol me, lewis and pierre. Theres others but theyve only sparred once or twice and are real young so you can only touch them really. Lewis went to alberta golden gloves and took silver in his first ever fights, pierre has never fought but is equal with lewis, theres colt who is golden gloves but hes hardly ever there, and a lanky muay thai guy but he hardly spars. I think most people quit because our 'trainer' rarely trains and has never fought or sparred himself. Its a **** gym but its the only 1 here, I guess there used to be good trainers but theyre gone. At least we spar pretty hard and dont go light on our punches but its still kinda depressing.
