  • Styles in AMATEURS

I lost my last fight because i was thinking to much on counter punching. Just wondering in the ams what style is best. Should u just throw heaps of punches and move around or think more and counter punch etc. In sparring should u work on throwing punches at a high work rate or box and take your time?

Since amature scoring is based on clean, landed blows. You more then likely will want to fight at a fast pace with alot of punches.

i was thinkin the same thing, would most seasoned ams recommend you just up your workrate in order to win am fights?

Here in england connecting as many jabs or straights as you can to the head is the way to go. Also helps to be tall and long armed.
If you're a stocky body puncher then you might find the ams a bit of a challenge when it comes to scoring the preffered shots.

im trying to develop my stamina as much as i can because i want to achieve a level of fitness where i can jsut bounce around on my toes throwing flurries every say 5 seconds for a whole fight. im pretty fit now but not right up at that level. that style aint me i know that, im a natural puncher i like to time my shots but i know that wont win me many am fights.....

yeah i have a good am body. im tall and rangey. i plan to fight am welterweight at 6'1, pushing 6'2. its all about good footwork, jabbing regularly, and occasionally dropping a bit shot, when you think you can

theres no such thing as a good boxing body, all shpes and sizes have their advantages, you might be tall and rangey, but i bet a short stocky infighter with fast hands and feet will cause you plenty of grief
