You need college man. Try to find a college that is close to a gym. That is the best sollution. You can be in college and still box alot. My friend does it all the time. But know that even if you do become a pro and make money, you will still need an education to get you a job when your career is over. You need to find a balance. Dont let your ambitions blind you of your common sense. Be disciplined.

    God Bless. Live Righteous.

kbpoetree thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. yea university is useless in the states, but in the uk it isnt? really makes no sence. its useful anywhere you are. and i understand that this isnt an english class and i dont spell everything correctly either, but thats mostly due to typing fast not looking over it etc. but mr tricky spelling exactly, egsactly, more then once and other horrible spelling mistakes, can you even go to university or college?

University's are worthless in America? Obviously you were unfortunate enough not to give a **** about it. Chances are you'll be making at the most 1/4 the amount of money per year someone at college is going to be making.

          Let me share a common statistic with you that has been shoved in your face since you were in at least 9th grade;

Average Earnings Per Year (in dollars):
          • High School Dropout - $17,000
          • High School degree/GED - $28,000
          • A.A degree (community college) - $37,000
          • Bachelors degree (four years) - $57,000
          • Masters degree (generally six years in college) - $63,000
          • Doctorates degree (generally eight years in college) - $88,000
          • PHD (a very, very long time in college) - $120,000

Makes cents *sense, get it?* to go to university. One of my trainers, who fought down in Mexico as a professional used to wear a shirt that said, "Ignorance is expensive." He used to preach to everyone that if they EVER had the chance to go to college, or any type of higher education, that they should take it.. and if they didn't, he wouldn't train them.. what a great ****ing man.

Education is more important. If you want to box, join the gym near your university. Don't **** your future up on a dream when you have an actuality infront of you.. especially if you can achieve both things at once. (Even if that means you have to 'step out of your comfort zone')

yeah, besides, why can't u box while in university, juan diaz does and he was the unified lightweight champion until a couple months ago. son, boxers careers end when you're 35 or sooner if you're unlucky. then what do u do for the rest of your life?

I would love to box whilst im in university, but ive looked high and low for boxing gyms near the university and there is only one, and thats a ex-servicemans club! If i could find one close to it, there wouldnt be an issue except for the fact i feel a bit harsh for leaving my current gym when they will have spent months on me for my first fight.

Here's a quote that all this reminded me of.

"Be real. Don’t be fake. Be smart. Don’t waste your time. Find that spark inside you and make it the biggest fire around. Let it burn out of control. Take control of your destination and never give it up. Stop making excuses. Make it work. All the pleasures in life cannot compare to living your dream. If you dream of being big, strong, lifting heavy, competing, and winning then go do it. Get off your ass. The only thing that I fear is the thought that one day I may not have a dream, so I will not let this one go until I get all that I want."

Its becoming the main thing in my life, i dont drink even socially any more for fear for my fitness, i sometimes miss social events just to go to the boxing gym, i arrive at the gym half hour early just because i love the gym, i stay late every session, everything i eat, do is based around boxing. I dont think its got to the point where its ******ly obsessive, cos i still see friends and do social activities, only with close friends though!
Now heres my dilema, in september, if i get the grades i should be going to university in northampton, which is 3 hours away from my boxing gym. September is also when the season starts when i should be having my first fight. Im sure you can start to see the dilemma im put in here! My mum really wants me to go to university, and to be honest, before i started boxing i wanted to too. But boxing has put a different perspective on things, im wondering whether to just have a year gap, get a job and concentrate hard on training and go to uni next year, go to uni and forget about it (shudder), or just drop uni all together. Some advice would be great! Sorry for the long post
Guy.....an education is something that can never be taken from you....a boxing career is something that can easily be taken........Trust me, you will still be able to take the chances you want after you get a degree....the only thing that is going to put a damper on your career would be if you get a woman knocked up, if you do that than you can kiss all your aspirations and hopes of one day becoming something fabulous good bye, because she will suck the life right out of you; women are really good at doing this and some of them make a career out of it!
