  • Sparred for first time tonight!

Id done a few rounds of lead hand only sparring previous to this, so tonight was my first proper round of full sparring! Really enjoyed myself, ate a lot of punches but also landed a few which got the trainers commenting! After i got told id done well and was given a few pointers, gassed really bad towards the end of the first round though, ring fitness is so much different to being on the bag etc!

To be honest i can spar more easily than i can do bag and pad work for some reason. But anyway, Just make sure you dont get to ****y and start going for power

yea i can really kill myself on the bags, but not so much in sparring considering i can go crazy on the bags but when i really spar im a counter puncher etc so im not a go crazy punch all out fighter. im also a heavy weight and have to take it easy many times so im not going all out anyway.

I can remember my first time sparring.. Well i not exactly done it alot yet so im still kind of new. It gets alot more fun when you start getting comfortable fighting. Glad you enjoyed yourself! Keep up the good work!

Same, i can kill myself on bags and shadowboxing. But then instead i could do 5 rounds of sparring and feel a lot fresher...

I do like to counter-punch though so that could help..

I think im a counter puncher also, i was waiting for him to come to me and kept jabbing him off, parrying then coming through with the hooks and straights. Helps that i have a severe height advantage!

i think because in sparring you are more alert so when you come out then your still a bit alert

Advice: Box near your weight class

I am glad to hear that you did well with your first boxing experience. I have been boxing for about a year now and we usually just box anyone who is willing. So that means welterweight boxers are boxing heavyweights (etc.). Try to avoid boxing larger boxers. I am a welterweight that often boxes heavies. I recently took one really hard cross to the face that shattered my orbital (eye socket). The head gear and 16 oz. gloves did very little in this case. My advice is that if you are going to box heavies only do block-and-jab. Its fine to have a full spar with someone in your own weight class.

i had a bad first experience, lol. when i first signed up i aint know a thing about boxing and my second day at the gym, my trainer/coach made me spar someone who's been boxing for 3 years. the coach told me to give all i've got and told the other kid to go easy on me. i landed 0.5% of punches and we'll just leave it at that. lol
