  • New member, Heyy! :D Help too please

yooo, just want to say hi really, and get some advice off you guys.

    Im from Blackpool, England.

basically..im going boxing for the first time next week, im in quite good shape already as i go to the gym about 3 times a week. Im 16 years old, just under 10 stone, about 5 foot 8, i dont no what this makes me weight wise?

i love boxing and know i will carry on with it after i start, i'm just a bit nervous about going for the first time not knowing anyone.

i have good hand speed and have a punch bag at home which im always on, i feel as if i could be a good boxer as long as i have the right trainer.

i know this sounds kind of ******, but another reason im starting is because i want to be able to defend myself on the street etc, i think boxing will keep me dissaplined but also a chance for me to let some aggression out. from what i have read on the website, starting out is very difficult, so im expecting a tough ride for the first few months.

anyway..thanks for reading, and i will look forward to spending time on the website

Welcome, trust me a boxing workout is a lot more intense than anyone expects. Try what fraidycat has in his sig, that'll be a good start.

But good luck and i hope you do stick with it, also try refrain from the heavybag so you don't learn too many bad habits before you get to the gym.

Youll be fine, dont be nervous... everyone whose ever boxed, had to walk into a gym for the first time...

The first thing they should have you doing is, learning your stance, and your footwork... how to move

if you move forward, your lead foot goes first, your back foot follows...

if you move to the side, you lead left foot moves left, then your right back foot follows...

this is what they should teach you... also, how to hold your hands, how to throw correct jabs, right hands, and hooks...

your gonna be learning the basics for a little while.. dont expect to be throwin in the ring sparring right away...

of course it all depends on the gym... but that should be how it is for most...

Just be nice, and introduce yourself to everyone you get the chance too...

i will have to try that lol, maybe not a wall in my house though, mum would go mental!

i dont mind learning the basics for a while, i understand that you cant run before you can walk, so step by step i want to improve.

i hope they do go through my stance etc at first, because i have hardly done anything before on foot work.

im trying to get in good habits before i even start boxing, from my little knowledge that i have, such as keeping my hands up when im shadow boxing and on the bag also, or do you suggest im more courages on the bag, and let hands drop?

Don't ever let your hands drop, this isn't pro boxing. But yes get your stance sorted out first as footwork is the most important thing, if your not balanced your not going to be able to move smoothly and hit hard at the same time.

Check at the gym to see if they have a special night/time for basic classes, they will ease you into it while helping you start out.

The first think you will notice is that people in boxing gyms are alot nicer than you thought they would be. It's not like other gyms, or other sports. From my experience, everyone shows everyone else respect in the gym. Everyone helps everyone, and you can make some really good friends in the gym. There is no form of male bonding quite as powerful as beating the snot out of each other.

Don't worry about that. You can practice as much as you want at home. If there is one thing I can guarantee, its that you are doing everything wrong.

                    /

                    some tips ,

dont be big headed once you arive,

dont try to show the trainer anyting extra that you know e.g if he says just jab then jab dont throw lots of shots, becuse you dont know noting wen you begin

                    be willing to learn,

                    try your best

ask questions now and agen, show your face, try hard and never just think you know it all like some do, dont sit back and become unnoticed, try and learn and become ivolved that what they like to see,

kk just do ur best and learn is the most important thing, you probably think it might be a bit **** after your first sessision,

i remember my first session i walked in and it was quite scary and rough, i did some shadow boxing and felt a bit daft but thoguth i might have learned a little, i went home adn was half hearted about coming back, i knew knowone, and felt arkward,
Now one year one is unbelivebale how much ive learned and how much i have still got to learn yet now im sparring and a good fighter there now waiting for my first bout hopefully soon,

boxing is great once you get into it, great for adrenaline, workout, sweating, its also kinda cool when people ask if you do boxing and talk to you about it,

dont look a fool, like some people do they come and throw a thousand ****ty shots on the bag and they dont even know it, and they wonder why they dont have bouts yet?

anyway, you sond like your ready and willing to learn and all that so good luck and let us know what you had to do for your first session and..

Do you have the name of your club ?
