  • How To Increase Power.

I'm sure it gets asked lots and lots so dont lecture me on how much people post thing kind of thing, its what the forums are here for.

Basically, all I'm asking is for ways to improve the power that you throw each punch with. Because, hitting the bag for a long time with endless stamina is easier to attain and all good but I'm not sure how to exactly increase your power more and more and be able to see a noticable change.

Any excersises or routines that work would be brilliant and I wouldnt mind an explanation into which muscles are dominant in throwing punches powerfully.

    Thanks.

    Explosive (body)weight exercices.
eg: Push ups; explode up and go down slow.

The exercices are to be short and heavy. Shortest exercices I do take 10sec, longest about a minute. You are to do the movement as much as possible in that time.

So power comes from being able to control your own bodyweight effectively?

yes. there are a few other important factors as well. your connection to the ground is important for example.

control of the body(momentum, direction, etc) is what my coach/teacher particularly stresses.

push ups and such work the muscles in certain ways - and it's good to stay in shape. but, a punch is not a push up. if you want to learn how to punch, start punching.

Exactly, your punches will be alot harder if you land them with the right technique; moving your bodyweight in the right way by using your muscles in the right order.
The explosive power exercices like push ups will allow you to explosively use those muscles. And your technique has to make sure you land it right.

So you have to train your muscles in that certain way, to then use them in a certain way to punch.
(sorry for my weird english but it's hard to explain this for me )

You have to sit down on your punches, like Pavlik does when he corners his opponents. That helps a lot.
You also have to throw shoulder punches, don't just use your arms. Rotate your hips to the right if you're throwing a hard left hook for example, you don't have to go 360, just a slight rotation, it gets the job done.

Increase power. i've found that proper technique compared with doing strength training (not weightlifting) has helped me.
