  • Question about height/weight/diet

    Ok
basically, i have a few questions:
wat sort of weight categories do guys who are 6ft+ fight in?
wat supplements (if any) would you recommend for training (bearing in mind im 15)?
how do you lose fat effectively, without putting on weight from gaining muscle?

    thanks

At 15 you should only be using a good protein a good multi vitamin and maybe branched chain amino acids.

Stay away from heavy lifting....it will make your tendons more rigid and less flexible which will make it harder for your body to grow....the tendons flex less and hinder bone growth....Use core excersises and plyometrics with body weight....Run all you want as well!

For a 15 year old you've got a reasonable build (taking into consideration I don't know your body fat %). I wouldn't recommend anything other than a keep fit program. This means eat normally but do good exercise, play sports, join a club, whatever. As mentioned before, heavy resistance training (i.e weights) is not a good idea to do before you're 18. Just doing regular cardio exercise like playing football (soccer if you're American...), or even just going to a boxing club and doing their training work outs will decrease your fat % without increasing your muscle mass by a great deal.

Just get in shape, live a healthy, disciplined lifestyle and let your body weigh whatever it wants to weight. History has shown that once you achieve boxing shape you won't have much fat to worry about.

does it matter that my upper legs (ie. my quads) are quite big, and probably weigh a fair bit?

Since all your other questions were answered quite well I'll take the weight class part. When I was fighting amature back in the late 70's I am 6' 3" and fought middleweight and I was very tall for my class. At 6' 0" you could be between welterweight to light heavy weight depending on your body type. Your first step is to get in great shape and see where your weight is if your in shape and your say 155 lbs then you could try to add some muscle to fight middleweight, I wouldn't reccomend trying to drop alot of weight after you are in shape it will make you weak. Hope this helps

Low weights, high rep' will build the smaller muscles and tone you. This will make you look better for the girl's and will make you lean by losing excess body fat on the specific part. It's a good direct means of achieving that, for example if somebody thinks their arms have too much fat doing this is probably the best idea. Problem is, building muscle wont always reduce fat %. Having said this, the most effective way of reducing all over body fat is C.V. Also, body fat aside, C.V will make you healthier and increase your endurance something which is crucial to boxing.
