  • Sparring is pissing me off!

Ok, i just got back from sparring this bigger guy about 30kg difference he has only sparred about 5 times and ive been boxing for ages now... I always feel like quitting boxing when stuff like this happens. I know i'm better than him but he just tags me with these ****** shots. My technique goes out the window and everything just goes to ****. Any tips on sparring guys like this.

i think its because the other guy is not concentrating on technigue but on just smashing you up so its better to spar with people with more expericence

        likethe guy above me said...

sometimes it can be difficult sparring someone with less sparring experience. they fight awkward and in a style that you arnt used to.

try staying calm and relaxed and just try boxing, moving figuring him out... it may take a few spars to do so. it sounds like your problem is learning how to adjust to different people, its important and good your learning it now, because no one opponent is ever the same.

Best thing to do with guys that come in tryin to hit ya hard, i fond, is to sidestep them and unloads the most powerfull shots you can into them. When you do tha a couple of time, these newbies think like...****, better calm down.

Man, I don't know what's going on? I posted an answer here a couple of hours ago and it has disappeared!! Anyway, basically what I wrote was that you should speak to your trainer 'cos he knows you best - strengths & weakness etc. Ask him where you go from here. He certainly won't want you quitting.

If the size difference isn't too much you should be able to easily outbox him, you got more experience and you are much faster.

Like has been mentioned, when you're used to sparring guys who have boxed for a while (guys who pick their shots and don't go full out all the time) it can be frustrating to suddenly be faced with someone who is crude and a bit of a street fighters mind se.
The most important thing to do is learn to keep your head. Don't plant your feet and trade with the bigger guy just counter for the first few rounds and make him miss as much as possible. Later in the sparring session he will tire and you can start picking up the offensive pace. Remember to box, not fight.

The only thing i can suggest is that you stay relaxed and keep composed, don't let these "****** shots" faze you. Also you could speak to some other fighters and your trainer as to learn how to counter them and then go after him like a raging bull..... sorry. What are these ****** shots anyhow??

The size difference is 30 kg, that's a good 66 lbs!

The best way to box these guys is to frustrate them early on, don't worry about looking good the first two rounds, stick and move and focus more on making him miss than hitting him because his flush shots will put you in a defensive shell. If he's really that inexperienced you can try playing mindgames with him, if he hits you make it look like it didn't phase you at all and taunt him. By the second or thirth round you'll be well able to box him using your own game plan.

I usually do this when sparring with people bigger than me, or in street fights where no rules apply really (not that I'm in many street fights). I'm not sure about the damage you'll be able to do with a guy that much bigger than you, but if you've got decent power go to the body, chest and shoulder with your hard shots, this really discourages big guys.
