i am not going to give out my old/ancient secrets - you have to train with me to get them.
but, here is something i learned while researching rocky marciano:
rock, to increase stamina and leg strength, used to run up a steep hill. at the top of the hill, he would proceed to run back down it, but ran down it backwards.

He used to wear real heavy boots whilst doing this. Old school gain through pain right there!
I have a old pulley with a bucket I add scrap metal and do pull downs, tricept extentions etc.... Then the sandbag or medicine ball work is allways good. Sledge hammer and chopping wood like mentioned earlier is a great exercise. Rope climbing, sled dragging and running up hills or steps will give you a great workout also. Good luck with your training
Yes running up and down a set of stairs/steps is good, I do stair drills a lot great for stamina. I'm not sure if it's old school but it's certainly irregular, monkey bars, if there's a local park near you that has them get on them for upper body strength. Try doing them going fowards and backwards, doing monkey bars for a few weeks increased my chin up amount big time.
chopping wood is often done by football players as well. in my style, we have to train this type of movement and the force it creates religiously. we got to see wladimir use it quite a bit in the fight last night. the difference is that we use the chopping and add splitting to it - so we would advance on the movement and come over the top with something nasty.
i often say, training is only limited by your imagination.
