If I can go out on a limb -- or up on a soapbox . . . .

I blame the culture of instant gratification. I see these guys, too. I see plenty of them coming into the gym -- doughy, soft, yet swaggering and talking **** anyway -- and once they realize that it's actual WORK, they bag it. But boxing LOOKS easy if you're doing it right. And I think that the amount of punishment involved in learning to box is beyond the comprehension of kids raised on fast food and self-esteem camps. So they make a video of themselves looking like a douchebag, and then get bent out of shape when those of us who are actually putting in the work beat them down.

What whitehope and boxbrian and their ilk don't seem to get is that some of us get offended when someone comes along who clearly hasn't put his time in, and makes a video wherein he says that he can whip anybody. It doesn't work that way. There is no sticker the coach gives your parents that says "My kid is a TERRIFIC BOXER at Bucket of Blood Gym."

It doesn't offend me. But I pity any man who won't forge himself in fire. It must make for a very hollow life.
