Can't put my finger on any specific fighter..

What are your pet peeves while training
I love when people goto the gym a few times, maybe spar once, and walk around talking about how they "use to box"

[QUOTE=ExecutiveOutlaw;3110989]Out of curiosity I have a few questions for you guys:
                • How long have you been boxing
                  Since June 2008
                • Are you an Amateur, Pro, or just training for fun
Amateur. 14 fights, 9 wins 5 losses. Two of those losses by 1 damn point. Two of them were close decisions. Only got beat bad once, lost 32-5 in my first open class fight to a guy with 40 fights who won his next three fights that weekend and won the tournament, so it doesn't bug me.
                • Weight/Height
                  ~160lbs/5'10"
                • Why do you box
I played soccer and football before, had been out of sports for a year or two and saw an ad in the paper for a new boxing gym. Thought I would give it a shot and I was hooked after my first day. Didn't watch much boxing before, lots of MMA though. Now I just watch boxing and it's taken over my life lol.
                • What do you need to work on the most
                  Footwork.
                • What is your favorite/least favorite punch
Favourite is anything to the body. Usually a right hook to the ribs or straight right to the stomach.

Least favourite....I guess my left hook. I'd love it but I can't seem to through it very well.
                • Which boxer's style do you most resemble on offense and defense
My coach says Alfredo Angulo. Not the best defense or the fastest puncher but big power, great chin and lots of pressure.
                • What are your pet peeves while training
Unreliable training partners I guess. Having nobody to spar with when you want to do some work sucks.
                • Which drill are you best/worst at
I don't know about what I'm best or worst at, but I like sparring and hitting pads the best and like shadowboxing the least (but I still do it of course)
                • How many hours do you train and how many days a week
Usually 2.5 hours five days per week at the gym, plus whatever running I do in the morning.
                • How long did it take for you to feel like you knew what your were doing in all aspects of boxing
I certainly wasn't an expert but I was very confident for my first fight and that was after 5.5 months and we were trying to get me one before that. I felt I was well prepared for anything I would encounter in the ring.
                • Whats the most important advice in boxing you know of
Don't give up becasue it's hard. Weather it's your first day in the gym and you're exhausted and think there's no way you'll be able to handle a real fight, or you're in a fight and it's not going your way. Just keep going and learn from any bad situations you encounter.
                • What supplements do you take
Does protein shake count as a supplement? That's it.
                • What lesser known tips/advice/secrets of boxing/training do you know
Umm...nobody really goes to the body, especially novice boxers. So if you're just starting out learn to whack that body hard and often. My first fight I landed more body shots than head shots (though it did end with a head shot). My opponent had no idea how to block them. I won my last fight becasue I wore the guy down with body shots and he had nothing left in the third.

I know telling people to go to the body isn't a secret or anything but not many amateurs do it so if you do you will have a big advantage. Most guys are headhunters especially when just starting out.

                  14. What lesser known tips/advice/secrets of boxing/training do you know

                  1-Around 10 years.

2-Mostly for fun, had 4 amateur fights between the ages of 16 and 19 but i'm 25 now and just train for fun.

3-6 foot 4, 245 pounds, i need to go back to around 230, let myself go for the past few months.

4-To stay in shape, get rid of stress and i also happen to enjoy punching things.

5-Keeping my hands up when im on the bag, i have the bad habit of getting flashy sometimes. It doesn't happen much in sparring but it still not something i want to get away with.

6-My favorite punches are my right hook and straight left. I don't really have a punch i don't like, maybe just my overhand left.

7-I'd say Chad Dawson, but with a little more pop in my punches.

8-Well i have not been to the gym for a while since i was injured but i'll go back soon. What i don't like at the gym is that we have 3 trainers, 2 of them are good, one of them is an old british guy and he's trying to get everybody to change their styles. If we'd listen to him we would all fight like Wladimir Klitschko.

9-Heavy bag, i have been told many times that watching me go at the heavybag is impressive.

10-I usually work out 2 to 4 hours a day, not always all in one go. I usually train 6 days a week. With Saturday being my only day off, and sunday and wednesday being days where i do lighter training.

11-I still learn all the time. But when i first picked up boxing i never was really serious about it, boxed for 4 years but i didn't really give a ****. I eventually stopped boxing for 2 years or so but when i came back is really when i got motivated and started getting better. I'm 25 and i'm in better shape, and i'm stronger and faster than when i was 20.

                  12-Keep your hands up.

13-None, i try to eat well. Lots of fruits and vegetable, lean meats and i only drink water, no juice or soda.

14-Land punches with your damn knuckles. A lot of fighters, even pro fighters slap their hooks and land punches with the wrong part of the gloves.

                  Interesting topic, cheers.
