  • Clueless how to spar properly

    Hey all,

Just had my 3rd boxing session there last night, first 2 were pads only, got sparring last night and I really didn't have a ****in clue what to do....

I was moving fairly well,on my toes and taking ALOT of punches but i didn't know how to attack at all really?Any suggestions?Like when should you aim to time your punches,to hit the body or the head, and all that?

Sorry,I know it's a real rookie and general question to ask but I really didn't have a clue.Anyone give me some pointers?

most important thing is to keep you gaurd up

if you hsve a longer reach just throw jabs at him 1-2 and 2-3 jab combos
so If your are othodox stance left, left or left, left right stuff like that.
you need learn the basics from before you star throwing hooks/upercuts.

yeah, i wouldt worry too much, you learn everything with time, at least youve been in the ring now and had a feel what is like, you will learn to time you punches corctly with time and practice,
what really haelp me when i started and still helps me loads to this day is to, always feint , throw a jab then feint a jab or feint a jab and hit him with right, or feint a jab then he blocks and soon as his hands go doown jab him, always look ready to hit him and making him think and guess,

keep you hands up close is very im****ant!

try to move around the ring dont just go back and farwud in straight lines which is what i always see biginers doing, try circling to the left or right and with suden change of direction,

after you both throw some punchs and the action seems to serarate as you move apart quickly flick a jab in his face, make him suprisied !
      use the elment of suprise,
if you get him in the corner and the let him out go right back after him,
beginners seem to only never cover up and move in straight lines.

my game relies on me completly making them guess and suprising them i use my brain more than anything,

now you will learn lot smore over time dont worry if you cant do all that stuff just practice and get better

I don't think anyone can help u with that at this moment , U first need to learn punching , blocking, ducking, ... before you can spar properly and then we can give you tips to box beter but now anything we say won't really help.
I was still learning footwork on my 3rd session

third session? that might be a bit too early. I just started sparring after a month of training and still wasnt able to do much, i only got couple good 1-2's in everything else was blocked or sliped, next couple times where better, just takes practice and patience.

The coach up there always throws beginners in early to get them a feel for the ring,i didn't mind it like,it did give me a feel for the ring pretty well,i just didn't know how to attack,it forced me to learn to defend which i thought i did alright, still though would've been nice to go in with a bit of a clue!

Thanks neway for the help lads.
