  • Ass Kicked by southpaw

Sparred with my cousin the other day...he's training to be a MMA fighter. Anyways I came to realization that ive never fought a southpaw in my life and it was awkward as ****!!! I mean the only shots I really caught him with was my straight right hand...just wanted to get a few tips for dealing with southpaws because I just cant figure this out...

I think the most effective punch against a southpaw is a left hook. So you should try that as most southpaws have there right hand low.

But good thread i just tend to use a left hook and straight right in sparring against them.

Circle away from the left. Double jab to the left hook.

yeah at first it was awkward as **** kinda like your first kiss. So then for 2 weeks straight i started alternating between 3 southpaws and now ive got to my current situaiton which works but is so different from how i normaly fight

Yup. A seasoned southpaw will see your left foot move to the outside of his right foot when you throw your right hand, and he'll already be gone by the time it arrives.

The straight right and the left to the body are the two punches a southpaw is really afraid of. In that regard, you have one more weapon than he does; his straight left is trouble because it comes through a hole in your guard (same as your straight right) but his right hook to the body can only take the wind out of you a piece at a time -- he doesn't have the liver shot with his lead hook. Unless he catches you with the right hook to the body at the wrong time in your breathing cycle, it's not that bad of a punch to take. Southpaws need to work up a freight train of a straight left and also learn to land the strong-side hook to the body, which is a ****ing difficult punch to time but does a lot more damage than a right hook.

I am a southpaw, and I am a sucker for left hooks. To catch a south paw you have to move away from their punches and counter. And like every fighter, if you cant hit the head, go for the body. Hope that helped.

dont give away our secrets damn *******s

                    no but seriously. lol..

move in and out.. circl away.. you try to stand toe to toe.. yourself will get caught with a hook... our right hands our as strong as our lefts.. for the most of us... so our jabs hit hard (as well as lead hooks) .. slipping your orthodox right cross is all to easy.. normally we counter with body shots.. cuz its the best angle we can get.. some leftys have a crazy left hook they can throw quick... i dont..thats a hard punch to time.. as said by someone else..

most of us can switch stances pretty easily.. since being trained as a kid to do most stuff both ways.. be aware.. we normally hold out untill the last round or two..

if u throw ur right cross make sure u throw a quick jab in after so we wont counter and try to slip it.. if u find someone who doesnt move his feet while he slips..circl right with a combo and land the hook..

we arent hard.. we have the same options as u..
