  • southpaw less scientific?...

I am 20 years old and have been training kickboxing alot, and for about a year ive put a great emphasis on boxing, im thinking about converting to orthodox,

    But its a difficult issue,

obviously i feel better in southpaw,
but there is alot more training opportunity in otrhodox, and i feel its more scientific, what do you think?
the only defensive genius to be southpaw was pernell, but he had some crazy slips and ducks, and exceptional skill.
I feel that in southpaw, i get alot closer to my opponent than in orthodox,
i feel coordinated and good in southpaw, but sparring is damn akward, i land alot obiviously, but the positions i am in are weird.
Strange thing is im a natural left hander, but my right hand is stronger.

do you think its to late to convert? ..
i hear srr converted from southpaw is this true?

I do just about everything except write and shoot a bow with my left hand. I bat with either hand, kick with my left foot, shoot a gun left-handed, fence left-handed, and throw with either hand -- though I can only skip rocks on the water left-handed.

The trick to all this is, I am left-eye dominant, so in an orthodox guard I can't see very well and I feel more comfortable in a southpaw stance. Most people see mostly out of one eye or the other; in my case, I see out of my left eye more than my right. This is why when I shoot a bow, I have to put the fletchings at the tip of my nose, close my RIGHT eye, and sight down the arrow with my left eye like a gunbarrel, instead of anchoring at the corner of my mouth like most archers.

My right hand is equally strong with my left from a lifting / grip-strength perspective. I switch to orthodox occasionally during a fight but I'm 90% southpaw. When I do change up, it's usually on a retreat to the oblique, with a waltz step. It's a lot less clumsy than crossing my feet and it not only changes my stance but also the entire vector of my attack. By the time he swings around, he hasn't figured out that I've switched stances.

I would love to be as fluid between the two stances as Nasseem was. Love him or hate him, that guy was truly ambidextrous.

why separate orthodox and southpaw. i fight both sides. limiting myself is the last thing i want to do. there is no law against limiting yourself to just one. hell, lets make it the new trend.

and it's all starting here, on the SCENE!

I am an orthodox fighter, but when I go toe to toe and give my opponent different angles I usually switch hit, think about it, if your opponent moves to your right why not stop him with a hard right hook(obviously if your feet are in a right position and balance).

As it is I don't get too fancy and try to box dynamically so that I am able to punch from any angle and any stance.

Very useful feat instead of limiting yourself to just one specific set of moves.

              I'm 20..

I do most everything right handed.

              BUT

              I'm right footed..

Sprints.. i start with my left.. jumping.. strength from my left.. etc..

and boxing.. i find my right hand jab more powerful as well as my aim better.. especially with the hook..

my left hands just as strong.. so the cross is right there..

i also can switch stances... i feel a LITTLE awkward but its no biggie.. normally just switch the stance to throw the big right.. power punch coming from a different side trips em out.. always.. especially when dancing to ur right (in a left hand stance..) with a jab.. switch feet bob his cross and counter with a big right.. haha try it..
