  • Speed And Strength

Hey i need some excersising advice on how to gain more speed and strength.

With speed i obviously need more leg muscles, but im not sure which is the best method. I don't have those type of weights at home which latch around your leg, so i was wondering if there were any other types of excersies that could do the trick. Like, crouches or somin.

With strength, i wanna know how to build up strength in my arms to be able to hit something harder, or be able to swing faster. I got weights, but for how long should i do them a day?

    Peace.

    Please use the search function.

It seems to be the consensus of the trainers and boxers on these boards that compound lifts -- squat and clean, in particular -- improve overall strength, mobility, and striking power. Strength in arms alone, or legs alone, will not help your punch as much as strength in the 70-75% of the muscles that Olympic-style compound lifts develop. A correctly-thrown punch uses nearly every muscle in your body; you need to develop them all.

i have the perfect magical solution for your question, but u gotta promise not tell anyone, ok?

      here it is....

for speed, work on speed movements

for strength, work on strength and power movements.

i hate to let my secret out, but u sound like u need help....

im jus clownin around man, but seriously, fraidycat's post was right on the money (as usual). compound lifts are where its at for strength, and for speed, u gotta work fast. pretty simple, no magic, no tricks, no secrets, jus straight up hard work!

My own two cents ~ think of all the boxing specific type training you do (speed bag, double end bag, jump rope etc) and as mentioned just do it faster, exert more effort into it. Mike Tyson was a perfect example for this. Everything he did he did he did with emphasis on moving faster through the motion. Don't just hit the speed bag, focus on putting maximum effort into it 10 or 15 seconds at a stretch until you can do it faster for longer. No real secret, just as Speedkillz posted, hard work.

First off talk to a your trainer, then train hard.

In my opinion, train your core strength, overall endurance then evaluate yourself and counter any flaws or misgiving you may have about yourself. Other than that if you want to hit harder then do bagwork and more bagwork and then even more bagwork.
