  • Ice Baths ???? Read this please!

do any of you guys take ice baths or cold baths.
i did some research and many anthletes do it so their muscles become stronger and heal quicker. amir kahn and other boxers do it aswell.

    here look
In simple terms, it's about helping the muscles, tendons, bones, nerves and all the different tissues used in sport recover from their workout.

Just like Michael Schumacher's car needs a complete overhaul with new parts and tyres after a Formula One race, the body needs to service itself and its parts for the next day, next race or next match.

The body does this with the help of the blood vessels that bring oxygen to the tissues and remove the waste products of exercise, the most common being lactic acid.
    ..
Too much lactic acid build up can cause the muscles to function poorly and over a long period of time feelings of fatigue, heavy legs and general tiredness can set in.

So how do ice baths help to boost the body's recovery processes and prevent injury?

When you get into an ice bath for five to 10 minutes, the icy cold water causes your blood vessels to tighten and drains the blood out of your legs. After 10 minutes your legs feel cold and numb.

So when you gets out of the bath, your legs fill up with 'new' blood that invigorates your muscles with oxygen to help the cells function better.

after boxing training i decided to give it a try myself apart from i had no ice so i just used cold water, i filed the tub up with cold and added a little warm but still it was very cold i then sat in it and layed back , it was hard to breath and tough at first, after about 5-10 miuntes i had a hot bath.
the text day i felt greath and really wanting to workout, like i had done nothing for weeks and i was all fresh and ready to do somting and i didnt feel like i just had an intese boxing session the day b4 like i usally do

i would give this a try because it worked for me.
please give your views and opinons thanx

i heard that you can just like take a hot shower. then alternatively switch from hot to cold for a minute or 3 and just keep on doing that

DO NOT TAKE A HOT SHOWER AFTER WORKING OUT. that is horrible advice. it prevents recovery, keeps lactic acid in your muscles, and promotes swelling of... muscles, tendons, joints, everything really.

yea cold showers are bomb you feel awake after you take one and its like your energy recharges, for guys it might have something to do with the hormones because its supposed to subdue the libido for a while or shrink you, so it might kind of be like a reboot for you system

I tried this after my morning workout. The boon was that I wasn't sweating when the shower was over and I'm usually a pretty heavy sweater post-showering. The drawback as the OP touched on was catching my breath. I was gasping with some strain while the cold water was hitting my chest and back, the other parts of the shower weren't so bad, not even washing my head. But as soon as it hit my chest it was pretty difficult to control the breathing. I'm going to try and stick with this for a week and see if I notice anything

I'd flex when Im having cold showers and it makes it easier to breathe but it may defeat the purpose since it pumps blood into the muscles....what do you guys think?

I tried it, couldn't handle it. I tried, though. And that's all that matters.---

well i was exageratting. i don't mean HOT... i just meant take your normal warm shower or something and alternatively switch.

and i said i heard so i'm not sure.

imma try it tonight. but i usually take showers like 2 in the morning =\ so it's too cold to take a cold shower.
