He's saying that by working your obliques they become tighter hence bringing in your "love handles". Personally i don't think you can have both love handles and a six pack unless you are tensing your abs to see it. Is that techniques just on a set of scales? If so that's not accurate at all, but only good for changes in %.Last edited by Salty; 12-02-2007, 03:00 AM.

If he wants tips on how to 'shape' his body, I gave him bodybuilding advice. At 147 there ain't no way he's massive, and 9% bodyfat is ripped, so there would be no excess fat around his waist. So if he wants to do bodybuilding, he should clean bulk to gain more mass and obviously focus on his entire body (who cares what he benches) by incorporating core lifts such as squats and deadlifts alongside his bench press, as these would help him truly get big.
The exercise of clean bulking would a) clean up his diet and teach him good eating habits- opening his eyes to the fact hes not 9%, b) he would also understand that his shoulders and chest are not huge (unless he has 2 sticks for legs), and a 215bench is nothing special.
If he is a fighter, than what his obliques look like is irrelevant. Either way his diet is clearly at fault, I hope you wont disagree with me here. Hes not eating enough and what he is eating is not predominantly vegetables fruits and red meats, if both cases were true he'd weigh in at the mid 160s with a true bf of 9%.
If he is just interested in getting a ripped midsection, he should eat better (and more) and start running.

are you questioning my body fat ratio too? it's definitely around 9% plus or minus 1.

Is it just bone? Ive a buddy whos a stick and has bony "love handles" theyre his hip bone (its weird). Even so I agree with kryo with working the obliques. If you feel theyre to small try to build up your obliques but if theyre soft or something just try to tone em. or maybe your inner fat man is trying to get out
