  • Basic Weight Training Info

The stronger you are, the harder you're going to hit. It's simple.

However I'm sure most people here know a body-building routine isn't going to make you a better boxer. You have to mix bag work, explosiveness and maximal weight training.

In addition to working the mid section 3 times a week, I Currently do something like this:

    Monday: Maximal Strength:

    Weighted Dips,
    Weighted Pull-ups,
    Squats,
    Military Press

    Thursday: Explosiveness

    Sledgehammer swings,
    Dumbell shot put,
    Resistance band punching,

    Saturday: More explosiveness

    Snatches
    Push Press
    Claping Press ups
    Jumping squats

With Running, bag work and rope skipping where I can.

I really don't know if this work-out is sufficient, I keep trying to research but i'm having difficulty finding any complete articles on training routines.

Can anyone here post any good articles or links about weight/explosive training for boxing?

Theres others but I can't remember the addresses. I doubt you'll find any 'complete' routines anywhere. The above site is a good start tho.

For maximum strength building you want to be going for low reps - high weight.

        http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbin...?page=Strength

Here's loads of good articles for building strength using weights.

Like I already said you want to be doing mostly compound exercises with high weight - low reps. Instead of doing slower reps like a bodybuilder would to build and shape the muscle better do faster, more explosive reps to build strength and obviously explosivness.

I've bought Ross's book Infinite Intensity and my routine is based largely upon his example. I was hoping for more insight.

"For maximum strength building you want to be going for low reps - high weight."

I used to do a lot of low reps - high weight. yes, my punch was more powerful but I was becoming a lot more slower for it.

I'm trying to incoperate now both the low reps/high weight and high explosive reps into my routine.

Was interested in what sort of weight training other boxers did...

"when do u box or train for boxing?"

Whenever I can. I often finish a work out with heavy bag drills.

That's not perfect at all. Arching your back like that is dangerous.
