  • A short spar

Hey fellas, never really felt like posting a vid before, but I thought I may as well bite the bullet.

I've been training for 7 months now. 2 times a week mostly, but 3 times a week for the last month or so.

I'm the super heavy in grey, my sparring partner is light heavy. He's been training for about 13 months and had his first bout in early october. I'm currently 114kg but wanna get it down to about 107kg as it'll be easier for the club to find me matches. Not too many non-bouters at 245+ pounds to be matched up against :-(. This was our third round recorded be one of our fighters dad on his mobile, so not fantastic quality.

There's a bit of clinching going on but hey, I'm a super heavyweight we clinch more than we throw punches!!! lol It's a shame they didn't get the other rounds as there was a part when we clinched and I lift him up off his feet and turn him round lol

All in all, absolutely love the sparring, forever smiling all the way through it, still got lots to learn but that's what sparring's there for!

nice work bro - it looks like your footwork has alot of potential, you seem to be pretty fast on your feet when you want to

You move really fast for a super heavyweight. You lean a little much and reach a little much for a guy your size with feet as fast as you, IMO. You should be able to use those wheels to keep the guy at optimum distance. A big guy with quick feet is a whole heap of problems for the other guy.

I wish I could've seen you lift the guy up and turn him around; there's a little dude at my gym who likes to spar me -- he goes about 140 sopping wet holding a rock and I walk around at 170. It's like fighting a Jack Russell Terrier. The next time he gets uppity and clinches I may do what you did. LMFAO.

Cheers guys, I was very apprehensive about posting a vid as I've seen many a boxer get flamed on here, but then I thought to myself I don't think I've made any outlandish claims for myself so I might as well put the vid on the site. Heading off to the gym in a mo to spar the same fella. If it's recorded I'll post it. Gonna be working on some of those pointers you told me plus I need to be more disciplined with keeping my hands up.

                Cheers guys

Nice work mate, liked your movement, try to circle away when he's on the offense, dont back up to the corner like you were doing, also work on your jab..a good stiff jab would have been enough to stop him attacking..when he comes forward you should look to hit him with a good jab rather than backing into the ropes and just covering up..All in all there's good potential there..one more point dont drop your hands when preparing to punch, a faster experienced boxer would see you drop your hands and would catch you with a few shots and move out before you throw.

Funny you should say that, I was working on that today. Also working on keeping my composure and keeping my eye on my opponent at all times rather than going into a complete turtle shell.

Cheers for the comment bruv, most appreciated.
