I can't find any copies of the fights online, but i have seen his "out of retirement" fight against Jack Johnson and clips from his bout against either Gentlemen Jim Corbett or Gene Tunney (can't remember which right now). Both fights had bad quality picture and they did fight with a strange style, but you could definitely tell that he was an incredibly strong man and incredibly gifted athlete, even after he came back from retirement. His stance actually had a lot of modern technique to it. Very aggressive.

Blockburna944 - The fight you're talking about must be against Jim Corbett, cause he never fought Tunney.
People need to forget the shell of Jeffries that fought Jack Johnson.
I think that in a 25 round fight using 1900 style rules (some fouls are overlooked), Jeffries would be unbeatable. A story I've often read on the internet is that Jeffries killed a deer and carried it 9 miles home on his shoulders, and his friends had a hard time keeping up with him. He had physical strength on par with George Foreman, inhuman stamina, and was by all accounts virtually impervious to punches. Truly a physical freak of nature. Another thing I read about him is that he used to lunge forward in a sort of flying headbutt and slam heads with his opponent.
This goes against established opinion, but I kind of think nutrition was actually BETTER 100 years ago. Think about this, today everyone is eating candy bars, processed sugar, and McDonalds. Back then it was probably just Bread, meat, potatoes, milk, fruits, and vegetables. Everyone knows that processed sugar is bad for you and that there are harmful chemicals in alot of our food, what if you never ever came in contact with any of that stuff? I think people back then were just a much sturdier, robust than the soft weak people of today.

TysonForeman - you're probably right. Tunney came around a little later i think. I knew Jeffries was nothing like his prime self in the Johnson fight, but he still seemed like a scary and athletic fighteer.
I had heard the deer story too. Also, when he fought (I think)Bob Fitzsimmons for the championships, Fitzsimmons told the press later that he swore Jeffries first body shot went right through him. A lot of analysts consider him to be the strongest fighter of all time.
I think with our knowledge about nutrition today, you could probably devise a much better diet than they had back then, but few people actually follow the advice of today's nutritionists. The main thing, though, was the work ethic people had back then and the amount of physical labor many people performed in a day.

No kidding, imagine if you worked on a farm from the age of 3-14, then got a job in an iron foundry like Jim Jeffries. You'd have a huge work capacity. You're work ethic work surpass that of 99.999% of modern people. Work out for 2 hours? Easy! If you're used to working 14 hour days, 6 days a week of backbreaking manual labor, then getting up and running for 2 hours would seem like a joke.
