When I'm on the ropes I either do a low, wide weave with a sidestep, or else I compress him and drive him back. I'm a short light heavyweight and pretty damn strong so I'm usually not on the ropes for long. Some guys at my gym -- the ones who hate pressure fighters -- call me "Dozer."

yea when against the ropes to get out i like to get low and push my opponent on the stomach or side step out, but its almost guaranteed everytime you side step out your getting a hook thrown at your head.

The only thing you can do is not get hit there.
