  • My hands...

Every year for about the past 5, around September my knuckles start tearing open whenever I hit the bag. The back of my hands get all rough and turn a mix between brown and purple, and I lose some feeling in the back of my hands so it feels like I'm wearing a glove.

Is this normal? Has it happened to any of you guys and if so does it go away?

No, the weather was nice around here in September. It was summer weather.

My hands were fine, then I hit the speedbag, and I woke up in the morning with dark brown knuckles, and then they ripped open when I hitt the heavybag.

Hmmm. Sound like you need to learn god's great invention of boxing tape and heavy bag gloves. They work wonders so your knuckles. Now your knuckles won't look dark brown like you ran out of toilet paper when taking a dump and still cleaned your ass. LOL!

bro, not trying to be a ****, this is a serious question:

do you use any type of handwraps?

i'm new so sorry if you're a brutal. i just don't know what everyone's deal is. i just know a lot of people who don't train think they don't need wraps to hit the bags (i was one of those people, and i constantly had bloody knucks).

i keep tellin' you guys - it's all in the hand conditioning!

if you can, try to dig around the web for kostya tszyu articles/interviews from boxing monthly. in one of these he hints at some of his more secretive training methods which had given him the edge for many years. of course, having knowledge of MA helps. otherwise, you probably will not have a clue what he is talking about.

edit: it could have been ko magazine, not sure since i no longer have it.
