    Swimming is tough as hell

during the diaz/ diaz massacre they mentioned that juan does a lot of swimming instead of running, so i decided to try and mix some in to my routine. Now, i run 7 miles no problem, could probably do another 5 on top of that. I tried swimming... i cant do more than 2 laps (a lap is once up, once back) without stopping to - barely - catch my breath. Anyone else do any swimming in their routine? I'd not heard of boxers swimming until juan diaz, but that guy seems like he could go all day, so he must be doing something right.

I mix swimming in my routine. I try to swim everyday if I have time. It's the last thing I do. It is hard but it'll bring your wind up and it works your whole body. Ever since I started swimming my endurance skyrocketed.

Swimming is tough in the beginning, but just like running, you get used to it, and to do a longer distance, you have to pace yourself. IMO it is a mandatory for a pro athlete to win, it helps in 99% of contact sports.

well, im stickin to it. i think i just need to learn to pace myself. i went again today after i posted this and i got 5 laps without stopping. i probably end up doing 35 laps by the end, just not all together. i remember when i started riding a bike to work after not riding a bike for... like 15 years, and that was really tough at first. this is probably just gonna be the same way. The breathing is the tough part to get down, and pacing.
