I'm also experimenting with the philly shell, I find it encourages me to be more mobile on my feet.

I'd say check out any video of James Lights Out Toney or Pretty Boy Floyd, both are very good at using the philly shell. I think you basically bring your rear hand from in front of your face to the side of your head to block the left hook.

Let us know how you get on with this style bro!!!

yea ur right hand comes to the side of ur head to block the hook, but make sure to move after that or u'll get tagged with a right.

        Yeah,

The thing with the philly shell is that it requires quick reflexes.

do what Brunson did to me, instead of blocking when the guy comes in with the left hook shoot a right hand and it will land perfect, it will beat the left hook and you wont be in the same position to get hit with the left hook... trust me.

somewhat, but not really. Toney rolls his shoulders either way and its like all the punches roll off his shoulders. The philly shell is covering your chin with your left shoulder basically. Thers lots of differant variations on it, Mayweather and Holyfield have modified versions.

Ive accidently come up with my own variation, out of reflex I end up bringin my arm elbow straight up, fist down and I duck my head behind it, the right hands land on my elbow everytime, but it leaves my body and ribs WIDE open and I need to stop it.

dude, dont take this the wrong way, but he shot a right hand at u when u threw the hook cuz he's obviously alot faster than u r, so he knew he could beat u with that punch. if ur in the philly shell defense, and someone fast throws a left hook at u and u throw the right hand back, u got a better than good chance of gettin hit first, cuz of the sideways angle ur body is on, by the time the right hand lands, u will have already been hit with the left hook, due to ur body at a "more to the side" angle and the twist when u throw the right, it will take too long, unless ur superfast. tyrone wont do that in a real fight, trust me.

It is very easy to watch a video of Floyd Mayweather and think to yourself: "I can do that!" The fact is you can't. If you could, you wouldn't have to ask that question. Still to traditional boxing skills. May not be a cool but it is safer and easier.
