    Try intival training.

running say 300m then sprint for 30 sec. then jog another 300m then sprint 30 sec. I do it with a group of guy's it has built my cardio and stamina way up. Do some research into it on the net. Will work wonders for you.

If you want to increase your cardio (not your ability to run), but your overall cardiovascular endurance, there is NOTHING like swimming. Works your whole body coordination and forces you to regulate breathing over a certain rhythm. If you want to break up your routine and add a cardio boost, hit the pool. Oh, but don't be surprised if your endurance in the water sucks when you first start.

I think i might start swimming soon as im only 19 and i have had knee pains since i was in my early teens and dont feel like having arthritic knees when im older. What kind of lengths/excercises do you do in the pool?

My recommendation is to start somewhat small. Something like this:

                  Warm up:
                  50 yards freestyle
50 yards freestyle pull (Use only your arms, no kicking)
50 yards freestyle kick (Use only legs, no arms)
                  25 yards freestyle
                  25 yards breast stroke

                  Work out:
                  2 x 50 yards freestyle
                  1 x 100 yard breast stroke
                  2 x 100 yard freestyle.

                  Cool Down:
                  repeat warm up.

Thats the framework of my workout when I hit the pool. The distances are a bit longer, but they have to be (Lifeguard). Work on that and you'll have a strong base for moving up in no time. And your lungs will hate you.
