  • weight in's for amature fights

I haven't had my first amature bout yet but I want to know how much time is given in between the weight in and the fight? I'm a natural 160 pounder so should I fight at 155 instead of 160 so I wont have guys coming in weighting about 180 on fight night?

you have about 1/2 an hour befor. then depending on what order your fight is it can be anything from half an hour if you the first fight, to 2 hours if your the last.

There's no 160 weight division in amateurs, and no 155 in either pro or am...

Am weights are 152 and 165. Around here, weigh in is usually about an hour before fights start. If it's a tournament, it's like 7-8ish in the morning with fights starting at 9 or 10.

if ur fighting at around the 160 weight, i HIGHLY doubt someone is gonna come in weighin 180 on fight night. thats in the pros where u have 24 hours to replenish. in the AMs you have either like 2 hours to replenish, or like 6-8 if its a tournament. no way someone is gonna weigh in at 160 or wutever and come in at 180 dude. anyway, if u fight at 155, u'll still be fighting at the 165 level and be smaller, so i would lose the extra 3 pounds and fight at 152...

Your boxing coach should have told you to perfect your boxing skills, eliminate the flaws form your style and concentrate on achieving the highest level of fitness. Don't worry about the so called "weight advantage," it is highly overrated.
