is it ever a good idea to throw a couple of wild swings to get your opponent, when normal hooks don't work?? I always have a hard time hitting taller opponents with a perfect hook (90 degree angle hook) technique-wise, in the head, cuz they always lean out of the way. Can I get away with swinging wildly at a taller guy to land my shots, or atleast throw my punches with less technique?? also I'm having having a hard time getting in, everytime I do I get pummelled with wild swings, which make me back off, how do I get over this??

    No, boxing wise, it's ******.

If a taller guy is able to evade your better, more accurate shorter punches what makes you think he won't be able to dodge your sunday punches.

I think the question should be, what do you do when you can't land your hooks on a taller opponent?

      Throw short crosses using angles.

nah i dont think u should ever swing wildly at someone, cuz u can get countered alot easier and put on ur ass. keep ur calm and if something doesnt work try something else. something will work, and if it doesnt, well ur jus outclassed u gotta train harder and think smarter next time...

Do not stand face to face with your opponent. Stand at an angle and attack going in inside, so he can't back away properly.

ridiculous? as opposed to.... having one man on his back in the missionary position with his legs wrapped tightly around another man on top of him tryin to **** him out while thrusting back and forth and rolling around on the mat... yea i could see how wild swingin in an AM fight could look ridiculous....

Try to do reaching hook, similiar to what Joe Frazier used to do. To get in,do a quick jab and step in right after that, then do your damage on the inside.

If you're smaller than him, stay smaller than him. Bend your knees a bit more and make him come down to your level. That should allow you to get at his head a little more, or, he'll stay standing and its easier to slip a few jabs to the stomach but make sure you get out quick. With enough shots to the body you should break him down and eventually the hands should drop. Maybe try throwing those hooks to the body instead of the head also.
