We never train right hooks. Anytime I ask about a right hook I am told that the straight right gets there faster etc. I guess for a beginner like myself we stick to the basics.

Thats true... but if you are able to land a Opposite Hand Hook Combo... it will be devastating.. and I mean for anyone that throws it. Worse for who gets hit with it.

co-sign. Ever since my trainer said that I dont do it. Then I realized Tyson does it,but he turns southpaw most of the time to throw his right hook. Its one of those punches where you can easily get caught with.Thats why I dont see alot of ppl throwing it.Having a trainer with experience can help you realize **** you havnt before.

Im starting to like the jab-over the top over hand right. Then a left hook to finish. Its a difficult combo because after the over the top right, you gotta move to the side to make room for the left hook.

I hardly ever use right hooks, i dnt really want to risk getting caught flush as your left wide open when you throw it. The only time i really use it is when im in close against a taller opponent and i then throw it semi over and around his guard like a mayorga style hook as it carries superb power and gets round there defence. Other than that i never ever use it as i'd rather use a straight ight then follow with my best punch the left hook.

My favourite combination when in close is right uppercut, left hook then right cross. but you can only really throw it when in close or you will be countered all day, but i've landed it well a few times now and their hands are all over the place. I found a double jab is usually a good lead into this combination and then it makes sure they are covering up.
