Ive seen pro's use both types of mouthguards as for purchasing one just search the web or check your local sports shops.

they use specialised ones made by dentists, they take a mould of your mouth with this pink gooey stuff. they also give a large selection of colours patterns etc. to choose from

Yeah, if your doing this sort of sport i would suggest a dentist made one, fits your mouth perfectly, and lasts the longest. Also you might be able to get some of the money back like if your here in Aus you get a medicare rebate when getting it done so it can be cheap.

                  custom gaurds.com is the best.

i trained at Renzo Gracies for a long time and everyone of the ifl, ufc guys and guys who competed alot had the gladiator mouthgaurds.

i had my mouth messed up bigtime WHILE wearing a gaurd.... it ****** bigtime.

i spent the money for the gladiator gaurd, it works awesome, i love it. worlds better than the shock dr which is probly the best "boil and bite" piece. its only $75, its definatly worth it. ive never had my mouth cut up on the inside while wearing it, nor have i bit the hell out of my tongue which has happened during bjj matches. much easier to breathe and a great fit. you wont realize its worth it until your mouth gets f'd and you wish you spent the 75 bucks.

                    Go to the dentist.

Mine ran me $88 Canadian. Only the upper teeth. Gets damned hard to breathe with the larger kind.
