That is exactly correct. We have them a few times a year at my gym, sometimes with other gyms b/c there aren't many boxers around here. Think of it as sparring sessions or exhibition bouts that are open for the public to come watch. At our gym, the proceeds go to charity -- my gym is a 501(c) charity, BTW -- so the local officials let it slide. Boxing is so rare here that if it wasn't for smokers we'd have to travel to another state for every fight.

EDIT: I also want to add that our smokers are just about the only times that sparring turns into a good, bloody, all-out war.

Head movement would've done you well as well. There's no good competition over here in VA. The boxing scene aint all that big.

Yeah thanks for posting that, good work man.

But I have to ask you, were you two told by the trainers to take it easy on eachother? Or were you a bit intimidated by each other?

Because I can understand that, it just looked like both of you were scared of taking shots when you're wearing pads, head gear, and huge gloves.

If you've never been hit I can understand that.

I was wondering the same thing about telegraphing... you said exactly what I could not find the words for...

A smoker is like a practice exhibition. Its meant to be takin serious, but when your nerves get to you.It could look fake. very hesitatant on what to do.Especially when you have a crowd.

i see a lot of amatuers who start off have the same posture as you. you didn't have a guard and kept coming straight for him. exciting stuff sometimes, but a good boxer would have owned you. nice fight

I honestly was a bit thrown off by the height difference, I didn't feel my jab was landing at all, and I had to resort to right hand leads. It was my 3rd smoker. I ended up with my left eye nicked a bit it still a bit blue/yellow...even with all the gear on you still can feel a shot that lands flush, some cats have more power than others though. Thanks for the input..and cool avatar ShoGun is the man..when is pride comming back?

I know what your saying, and I am still work in progress, I think its hard to look technical against someone so tall, my guard is better than that but with the crowd and not being able to really land my jab I at times I had to take the risk. I do better with cats my own size..but you gotta be ready for anything..and this is the best way to learn..

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that you did a really good job, even if you don't have a lot of experience.

5.8 vs 6.4 is really complicated, and you did not look that bad.
