personally i use the weighted bag gloves from title they are like 40 ounces per glove i think. wutever they are heavy and the help me alot with keepin my hands up, and hand speed. i would say the average for bag work is 18-20 ounces for a good workout, 16s would work too though.

www.titleboxing.com has some good stuff so does www.ringside.com

by the way, that sig of the european ass vs. american ass is great..... so true, so sad.... but so true!

I use 'em for bag work and drills.

                  1.) I don't hurt my hands.

2.) When I put on the 16 's to spar, my handspeed goes up, not down.

Edit: My boxing gym is run like a martial arts class, with a heinous 60-minute conditioning and drills workout before open sparring. The last thing I would want to do is put on heavier gloves at the end of that first hour.

Oh ok. I was thinking about buying 20oz gloves for sparring. I wear 18oz now. But I understand where you're coming from.
