  • Questions about getting started from a newbie.

I'm 19 years old 5'10 220lbs (yeah a fatboy). I live in southern California and the nearest boxing gym to me is Worlds Boxing Gym in Azusa, I have not visited yet.

At the moment I am eating smaller portions more often of healthier foods (veggies, tuna etc) and drink only water or tea and doing 1 hour of running/jumprope/biking per day(in combination not one or the other). I am doing this first and foremost because I don't want to get laughed out of a gym for being the fat whiteboy and also because I know I lack the stamina to give a hard workout.

I am orthodox and severely right eye dominant to the point where I lack proper vision out of my left eye, I have below average depth perception and hand eye because of it (punching and landing with good accuracy has not been a problem, defending properly has). I also have below average balance which is my biggest concern. However, that may sound like some **** but it never stopped me from doing what I wanted to do and it won't now.

I have always been a naturally stocky guy and have serious doubts about being able to go below 180.

My first question is, should I just go to the damn gym already? Second would be how much of a handicap would it be for you to lack periph. vision in your left eye, if you had to suppose.

Any and all advice welcome. Thanks in advance.

Yeah go to the Gym ask a trainer to help you out with a workout and shrug off what anyone says to you. I was in the same boat, albeit I was shorter and not as heavy but I went to the gym, got laughed at but I carried on. I'm not in perfect shape and am Still far from it but i'm tons better than I used to be.
