use lateral movement, you wont keep him off if you stand still, you need to back up and round all the time and make him pay with jabs and back hands.
He wants to cut thr ring off and get you on the ropes and smash more hooks, uppercuts and body shots into you.
You must stay off the ropes and keep peppering him..
If you can do this he'll eventually slow down and you can start taking him apart.

keep jabbing. I'm a short in-fighter like the guy you sparred.
Keep the jab, keep your distance and box on the back foot. He will find it difficult to get into your range. Move in and out, do not stand and trade with him.
Oh and tell him to stop wearing such light gloves, you risk being cut. It will have also made his hands faster than yours obviously, because your are impeded.

Stick your jab, but move don't stand there. If he's firing the Lefts circle to the right so he's off balance if he throws more. This will open up some counter opps for you with either of your hands. Jab and move, however, or what ever you do after just remember Jab and move.
I'll add I know this, because I am the inside type fighter. And those type tactics always frustrate me

My short hooks earned me the nickname "King Body Shot" at my gym early on. I'm 5'9", fight at Light Heavy, and I build boats. I am immensely strong for my size and I have wicked short hooks and shovelhooks. (I was hampered considerably in the fight I posted b/c we were limited in our punches to straights only.)
So from an infighter's perspective, what I hate is a guy who jabs well and controls the range of the fight, and especially a guy who has the timing to throw his cross when I'm stepping in -- or, if he's really got a pair of brass ones, he'll wait until I'm in close and throw an uppercut as I'm hooking. Nothing for us each to do but take those punches, and uppercut > hook.
