What's up people, my name is Ronald I'm 20 yrs old, and i've been thinking about starting to box. My dad's friend owns a boxing gym and he told me i should stop by and give it a try, after that i started looking at matches, pro and amateur, and i was totally blowned away by how boxing is a complete sport. That made wanna go and start training right away!
But i don't have the physical condition right now, i wanna get it up a little before i start going to the gym.

What are the main things I should work on before I start training at the gym?

    Thx in advance

I see this question a lot. If there is some reason you CAN'T get to the gym, then you should definitely be doing some running, push-ups, sit-ups, skipping rope. I would stay away from anything like shadow boxing or the heavybag, you can easily develop bad habits that will be tough to break when you start boxing for real.

But if you just want to get in shape before you start going to the gym...I would advise against that. I can't speak for other gyms, but at my gym, they MAKE you be in shape. When I go to the gym, I run for about 20 minutes before I even wrap my hands. When I'm done with the boxing part of my workout, I still have to do push-ups, sit-ups, skipping rope, etc.

You might as well get started ASAP. If you have a good trainer, he'll recognize that you aren't in the best shape, and he won't push you too hard until you are ready.

You're 20. That's still young, but you shouldn't be wasting any time. Just go to the gym! Your trainer should know that you are a beginner and will plan your workout accordingly.

Nope, that's not even close to true. Just go in there, enjoy it. It will be hard work, especially when you're out of shape, but you'll probably enjoy it. Good luck!
