The Heavy bag is a tool best used for conditioning and training depth perception. Yes you should use proper form while on it, but the aparatus is not really a skills training device.

i think the heavy bag is a skill training device. it is used to develop punching power and it is where u learn how to throw a proper punch. it can be used for codititioning purposes too, but i dont agree its not a skills training device. it is the most used thing for fighters to perfect their punches...

The heavy bags have been used as a skills aparatus by modern type trainers and is seen as a staple to training. I Frown upon this really. As do old school trainers. It's excellent for depth perception and finding your range, but stressing power develpment and skill can lead to problems just as easy if not more than gaining skill and or power from it. If you watch pro fighters on the bags even in this vid it's more about conditioning Paq isn't fighting the bag like he does an aponent. He is however getting some good conditioning in with the number of punches and being able to move his feet around. To me skills are built in the ring. Sparring and with punch mitts provided the trainer uses the mits to throw punches and keep you defensive minded throughout the exersize. I think the speed bag is a better skills tool than the heavy double end bag as well.

i guess i could see what ur sayin but i still think that the heavy bag helps develop skills. its true that sparring and mittwork is superior for ur skills than the bag. i dono wut u mean by depth perception, do u mean jus findin ur range??

yeah, finding your range and where the power in your punch is. I think especially the younger you are the more damage you can do to your punching ability by stressing the bag. I think later on when you are solid in your technique you can use the bag differently and more often.

Yeah that kind of sucks. I miss all the people ripping on him and then the challenges that he never came through on. Plus the videos were the best. My personal favorite 21 power shots in a row was hilarious.
