etiquette when sparring more experienced boxers

I was just wondering when your sparring more experienced boxers do you have to go light or hit them as hard as you can?? also what if you've been sparring them for a long time, are you supposed to continue going at the same intensity??

It depends on the boxing club and how they do things there. Since you are asking this question it probably means there isn't much supervision at your club. If the guy in front of you is a bully you will soon find out how good your defense is!

i sparred my trainer once who is like 220-230 pounds and has a lot of superheavyweight experience and has knocked a lot of people out. I tried way too hard and was outboxing him when i landed a huge right hand that sent drool flying out of his mouth as i hit him right on the button. After that his eyes lit up and he hit me with some tremendous shots when i was against the ropes. I would dodge 3-4 shots fire a few shots back and get tagged with a huge hook to the jaw, this sequence repeated itself throughout the remainder of the round. I found out i have a pretty good chin in that sparring session as nothing hurt me, but i did have a slightly swollen jaw and a little headache after. He says i dont fight conventional and the only way he can beat me is pressure because im smaller and faster. I don't really wanna spar him again cause all i learn from it is that I can take a shot and it doesent feel too good

I have a slightly different "sparring story" that happened tonight.
I am slowly getting back into shape after a 7 year hiatus(lol). So, lately I've been easing my way back into the gym.

Me and this guy who usually work out together, were doing alternating rounds where I play offense and the next round I play defense. Another guy wanted to join in. I told the other gym member what we were doing and he said, I just want to spar to the body. I kinda didn't like the guy's attitude after me and my gym buddy had somethin' going already, but I said okay.

So, right off the bat, this guy throws a jab to my shoulder and followed it up w/ a hook/uppercut to my gut, which kinda knocked the wind out of me. He then did it again, and I was like okay, it's on, I wanted light contact just to get back into it, but this kid was being a jerk . So I started working behind my right jab and working the feints, I finally had him on locked and I gave it right back at him. I threw a triple jab , then a left straight down the middle straight at his solar plexus, and followed it up w/ a right hook to to his left arm and pivoted to my right and simultaneously threw a left hook targeting his solar plexus again, his eyes lit up and had that dumbfounded look of what the hell he just got himself into.

I mean, I told the kid go light, but he didn't cooperate, so I had to let loose on the fool, after I left off another spurt of energy, I pretty much blew my load after that and mimicked DLH in his last 4 rounds against Tito(lol). Yeah, I can't wait to see this kid again, when I bring my headgear, 'cause I swear he ain't walkin' away with his teeth intact!! Back in the day, there was only one way I knew how to spar.....HARD!! But, if you tell someone to go light and you throw light and the guy returns the favor by going hard, that's just bad ring etiquette.

              try talking to your partner!

if he is more experienced you should not go 'all out' he will kick your ass!

My experience goes back a long way. My father first put boxing gloves on me when Floyd Patterson was still the heavyweight champion!

So this is what happened to you while sparring. Have you noticed that there are people in this forum who claim that sparring partners are really just friendly and loveable? In the real world of sparring, too many guys get their heads punched in.

I have been sparin this pro more experience boxer than me and im not gonna lie when u catch him w a nice shot prepare for the defense or to **** ususally someone like that will hit you back what this pro said to me "if you can dish then yoyu better be able to take it" so you can go soft the whole time or you can spar and get better and why be afraind when u fight a more experienced fighter u have nothin to loose but everything to gain. Take advantage of better people ive done it my whole time boxing its not the best feeling when u take the big shots but its an awesome feeling when take the big shots and enter the gym tommorrow to take more.
