    Walking and Jogging on your...

    Tiptoes?

I did it last night for 1 hour and damn my calves are sore.

Walked for 40 mins on my tiptoes, then I jogged normal for 20 mins.

Made my calves sore so it must be making my calves stronger. I just want to know how many other people do it. I tried it for the first time yesterday, and want to get people's opinion on how effective it is.

My calves are already pretty large (16 inches).

Why would you want large calves? Look at the best runners in the world, the best fighters, even high jumpers. Slim calves. So you can have great endurance, great strength AND power, with slim calves. Large calves are mostly dead weight, especially because the calf muscles are largely slow twitch fibres.

I want stronger calves, plus more power in my legs=more power in my punch.

I did something like that once in physical therapy after I had broken my ancle/tib/fib. It would be really beneficial for a NFL offensive linemen, but for boxer...I'm not so sure.

Fair enough. Except walking around on tiptoes for 40 minutes is NOT strength training, it's endurance training.

The power in your legs comes primarily from your thighs, hips and butt. The calves are primarily slow twitch, and since power is about acceleration, slow twitch muscles are not the one's generating power.
