  • Fast twitch muscle fibers

I've been reading up on a lot of old posts regarding weight training in boxing, a debate that im sure has been beaten to death here and even though I would like ot learn more, I wont piss any of you off by bringing it up again.

I only have one simple question.

The one thing that many guys seem to agree on is that weight training should be followed up by some sort of fast twitch muscle fiber workout (simply doing the action you were doing with weights only without weights in an explosive manner). My question is, do you have to do the fast twitch workout directly after doing the weight training, or would it is doing them PERIOD enough. For example, if I were to spend a day working out chest and back, would I or should I do the fast twitch workout right after working the chest....or could I do it the next day with my heavy bag/shadow/speed bag workout?

Also, would pushups be an excersize that works fast twitch muscle fibers? Your still pushing weight, just not nearly as much as you'd probably bench press. If the answer is yes, they would have to be done explosively, correct? As in clap pushups or pushing your hands off the ground?

    thanks

Heavy weights work fast twitch musle fibres.

You can do the explosive movements right after each set of weights, and you can do them independently. I'd mix it up, if I were you. Med ball throws, mimicking punches are great for both explosiveness and power endurance.

Like the above said do fast movements beetween weight movements. One thing you should try that i do is go quite heavy on a bench press do 3-6 reps then straight after taht do some clap press ups that will give you some great explosive strength which is needed for boxing.
