  • Joining A Gym

I'm going to be joining a gym within the next few days. My mate has been going for a few weeks so i'm going to go along with him the next time he goes. It's only i couple of miles from where i live. He only goes when he feels like it though, so i'm only going with him to find out where it is exactly, after that i'll go by myself, which will be everyday. I am absoultely itching to get in there.

So i just wanted to know from everyone who can remember is what can i expect from my first time at the gym?

How long will it be until i can spar?

How long will it be until i can start fighting?

Well done on having a go, I hope you like it.

I don't box amateur or anything so I maybe wrong but from what I know,
Sparring can happen as soon as a trainer thinks you have the basics in check.
But actually fighting Depends on how well you are going. 6 months if you pick it up quick, maybe 12 months.

Your first time going in will be different for different places.

Your first fight depends on how quickly you learn, and you will proberbly begin sparring once your coach thinks you have got the basics of defence down.

If you came into my gym for the first time, you'd be taught the stance and how to move your feet properly. Plus they'd get you working pretty hard, because you'll be expected to keep up with the rest of the gym, even if its killing you.

Just give everything your best shot - even if you feel silly (you can feel a bit of a twit when your shadow boxing for the first time). Just remember that everyone had to start somewhere and try your best and enjoy it.

thanks for the replies. I should be in the Gym tommorow evening, it depends on if my mate is going or not. But like i said after the first time i'll go by myself after that, i only need to find out where it is.

He says it's open 3 times a week,

And for the times it's not open, i'm going to buy some gym equipment.

          Thanks for the encouragement

Go running pal and buy a skipping rope. Do that and some sit - ups and press ups, thats all you'll need on your day off.

Don't go buying weights. Work on your cardio.

            ps.
