  • when you throw a hook..

do you ever find yourself bringing onr of your feet round. like a left hook orthodox and right foot comes round clockwise to the left behind you.

or maybe a right cross and you step foward with rear foot.

I need to keep my weight on my rear foot

I bet I can help you out a great deal. I was working on this today,

    try this.

Approach your target with your weight distrubted a little to the right side of your body, should mean your head is a little to the right. The only purpose of doing it with the weight on your right is it will throw your opponent off. They'll be aiming at you right there and by the time they get off you will have executed with your head in a different place. When you get just within range, put your right hand up with top of glove on hairline, move head to left while maintaining proper stance, you will feel your abdominals wind up when you do this...Also your RIGHT hand should be fully protecting your head before you move it to the left. VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR RIGHT HAND IN THIS POSITION BEFORE EXECUTION !!!! You should also have the left up, but the right hand being up is KEY.

"UNWIND" and deliver the left hook. Your left foot should be making the motion putting a cigarette out with heel going clockwise as you unwind with the punch. The only movement your feet should be doing is twisting motions, you should not be stepping around with your right foot.

I've been doing alot of variations, right now my favorite is a double left hook, big one to body, big one to head.

Another variation of the left hook I like the throw coming out of a clinch up close, is where you get right up on your man almost squared up, put your hands up and bob down to the left, then come up with the full force of your abs and everything with a super short left hook.

when performed correctly the right hand serves as a 'shell' as you get close and bombard your opponent.

cheers man nice one, but confused though. Im only body sparring at the moment. I think I need to shift weight onto rear foot and twist the front one.

Youre things confusing me a bit?

shift weight to lead foot and then execute.

weight on rear foot with head to the left, I guess you could do that but the hook will be alot less powerful.

whats up with your hand in that pic?

I think its harder with weight on front foot but harder to turn

I see some guys stepping off with their right foot. They stand with their feed a little closer together, and standing a little more sideways to their target and then step off. I also see guys standing much wider and just sliding the foot when they throw. I have tried both, but I have to say that while I feel a little more powerful stepping off, I think overall the wide stance/sliding foot felt better. Any clearification on this?
